Can I wash wool in the washing machine? Yes! If you’ve avoided cleaning those woollen jumpers in the past it’s time to learn how to care for your woollen clothing properly. ‘Can you machine wash wool’ is a thing of the past, and here we teach you how to machine wash and look after your designer wool jumpers to make sure they last a lifetime.
1. Turn your wool garments inside out before you wash them. This is the first and most important step and will protect your clothes.
2. Empty pockets and remove any pins that are attached before washing, as woollen clothes can be easily stretched out of shape.
3. Wash wool less frequently. Wool does not actually need to be cleaned as frequently as the rest of your clothes. The self-regulating fibre means you can get away with only washing your wool clothes every now and then.
4. Soak in cold water! Remember to soak your woollen clothes in cold water before putting them into the washing machine. This will help prevent shrinkage. If you feel like being fancy and want things to be extra clean, then you can add a small amount of detergent to your pre-wash water.
5. Always use a cold water cycle and use a wool, delicate or handwash setting on your washing machine. If you don’t have those options, then just ensure it’s a cold wash with the gentlest spin available and you should be fine – do not spin any wool items over 800, a no-spin cycle would be better if this isn’t an option.
After each wash, wool garments should be dried on a flat surface. Ensure any buttons are done up to help your woollen jumpers dry in their natural shape. Do NOT put wool into the tumble dryer.
A good tip is to lay the jumper flat on a dry towel, then place another towel on top. Now you can roll both towels and squeeze any excess water out of the jumper.
In your wardrobe is the simple answer (duh), but there are a few extra things you can do to make sure your wool clothes last as long as possible.
Wool fabrics fall into two categories. Woven and knitted. Knowing the difference between the two is essential for storing your garments. Woven items tend to crease but do not stretch easily.
It is recommended to use a padded or structured clothes hanger for woven garments, small wired ones may cause the garment to become misshapen.
Knitted items are the opposite, they are harder to crease, but are prone to stretching out of shape. Folding or rolling knitted garments is the best option to keep your clothes looking fresh and new.
For both knitted and woven items, make sure any buttons are done up before storage to make sure the shape is kept as pristine as possible.
If a garment becomes creased for any reason, simply hang or place in a steamy bathroom, away from direct heat or light. Some irons may have a wool setting which you can use but make sure not to iron when the wool is dry.
For coats, it is not recommended to wash too frequently and to take your wool coats to a dry cleaner. However, for simple stains, make sure to dab them out of the fabric with a mild detergent rather than scrub, and again, dry flat.
Similar steps to regular garments for removing creases can be taken for coats by hanging them in your shower room.
Keeping these tips in mind, wool suddenly becomes a much less scary fabric to work with, and definitely, one everyone should be rocking this winter.

Blue jeans feature in pretty much everyone’s wardrobe (apart from my Dad who’s rejected denim since the early 90s’) and are a staple piece for all occasions. But what shoes should you wear with blue jeans?
Sometimes it can be difficult to mix things up when you wear the same pair of blue jeans every day, and you end up reaching for the same pair of mucky trainers no matter where you’re going. Well stop! We’re going to take you through all the shoe combinations you can try with blue jeans, from smart casual to pub nights.
By mixing up your footwear you can up or downgrade your blue jeans for all occasions – apart from maybe weddings, yea, you definitely shouldn’t wear your blue jeans to weddings.
Okay, so we’re starting with the easiest option. There isn’t much to think about when you’re wearing blue jeans and trainers. They’re like yin and yang, peanut butter and jelly, you and I. They just go together.
Basically, you can pick what you like here. Whether it’s Nike and Adidas or Alexander McQueen and Mallet, pick your favourite brands and go from there.
If you would like to mix things up, then we’d suggest going bright and bold with your trainers. With so many options to choose from, don’t be afraid to stand out with some bold looks.
Start with the best, let’s go through how to upgrade an otherwise casual outfit. Black jeans are the safer choice when it comes to pairing with your dress shoes, but blue can work just as well and sometimes even better.
Wear blue jeans with black shoes that are shiny to ensure you pull off this look. It’s important you polish your shoes, so they really stand out and contrast with your jeans.
Also, try to wear slim-fit or skinny jeans when opting for smart shoes. Distressed styles are also a no-no, your jeans have to be ripped free and fitted.
The final rule with dress shoes is to roll the hem of your jeans up so they don’t touch your dress shoe. We need to be able to see all your footwear with this outfit; two pointy shoes underneath baggy jeans is a bad look.
Boots are often a forgotten aspect of men’s wardrobes, but they’re a great staple piece for Autumn and Winter. When it comes to colour try to pick dark brown boots to match with blue jeans. This provides a rugged, country vibe that is perfect for your day-to-day.
Chelsea boots, hiking boots, chukka boots – the style you pick doesn’t really matter. All boots with look great with blue jeans. Just try to make sure your jeans aren’t too baggy and don’t have any excess fabric. Similar to dress shoes, we also recommend you roll the hem of your jeans so they don’t touch your boots.

So, what shoes can you wear with blue jeans? Boots, trainers and even blue shoes can all look great with blue jeans. Just remember to roll the hems up so you can show off your footwear with pride.

Everyone suits different cuts of clothing depending on their general shape. What will look unflattering on one person will show off someone else’s best assets. So how do you dress for your body shape? Fear not, we’re here to tell you what will look good and make you feel confident with the body you have now. Starting by going through the different body shapes, let’s figure out which one you are and what type of clothes you should be shopping for.

Most men, especially older men, are larger around the waist and hips in relation to the top parts of their body. This creates a natural triangle shape with the waist as the base and the tip being the head. Celebrity Triangles include David Walliams and Michael McIntyre. So, what do you wear?
• Enhance and emphasize your shoulders
• Avoid polo necks and narrow crew necks. These will decrease your shoulder width. Opt for structured jackets and tailored blazers
• Don’t have the focus on your stomach
• Vertical stripes will create a streamlined effect that elongates and slims the upper body. Avoid horizontal stripes unless they are visible from the chest upward.
• Wear trousers with a straighter leg. Skinny and tapered trousers will make your hips and waist look wider.
Opposite of the triangle, the inverted triangle is when the base is at the shoulders and point is at the belly button. So you have wider shoulders and a well-developed chest. Celebrity triangles include Usain Bolt and Jason Statham. So, what do you wear? The goal is to draw attention to your hips and reduce attention on your upper chest.
Focus on the right places:
• A good v-neck draws the eye down and narrows the chest. Stripes across the stomach and detailing, like a statement belt, around the hips will also emphasize the parts that need it.
• A good graphic t-shirt – Some graphic prints and big logos will draw the attention from your upper chest. Just avoid detailing, prints or eye-catching colours on the shoulders.
• Avoid a skinny leg – Skinny cuts will make your top half appear even wider. Try a straight or relaxed slim to balance out your body. A good patterned trouser will also lure the eye away from the broad shoulders.
Men with a rectangular body tend to have a tall thin shape. Their shoulders are roughly the same width as their waist and hips. Celebrity Rectangles include David Beckham and Harry Styles. So what do you wear? The primary aim is to add shape.
• Choose your prints – Avoid geometric patterns as these will emphasise your rectangle figure not add in shape. Well placed prints and colours can enhance the upper portion of your body. Horizontal stripes, especially on your upper torso will add width.
• Be thoughtful when layering: don’t just wear everything you own in order to bulk up. Think shirts, knitwear and scarves to widen the chest and shoulders, but also to narrow your lower torso.
• Structure is key – Shoulder pads are your best friend. Structured blazers and jackets add in extra weight to your shoulders.
The oval body shape is when the center of the torso is wider than the shoulders and hips. This makes your arms, shoulders and legs look disproportionately thin. James Corden is a good example of an Oval body shape. So, what should oval bodies wear? Avoid anything that makes you look short and wear clothes that add shape to your shoulders and that appear to lengthen the torso.
• Vertical stripes are your friend – Vertical stripes and pinstripes will instantly lengthen your body, but horizontal stripes will make you appear rounder.
• Avoid attention at your waist – Statement belts will attract attention to your waist and highlight your widest point. A printed or texture in a darker hue is a better way to add interest to your outfit.
• Length and Fit – Make sure sleeves and trousers are the correct lengths. They should add shape and definition and not make you appear shorter.
Whilst it sounds the most complicated, this build is just your average joe. An average build is what most designers base their designs. The waist is the narrowest point on an average man’s torso, with it gradually widening up towards the shoulders. It gives an overall trapezoidal shape with the shorter side at the bottom. Daniel Craig rocks his trapezoid body, so you’re in good company. But what do you wear?
• Showcase your athletic frame in slim and fitted clothes.
• Take inspiration from modern sport looks. Avoid baggy trousers and go for a slim fit.
• Pick a print
• Other than these keep it simple, your upper body already attracts attention.
