Dan Bilzerian is the masculine archetype we're told not to aspire to. Confident, flashy, provocative, his lifestyle is as controversial as it is contrived.
But whether you dismiss him as a 37-year-old living out the puerile fantasies of a teenage boy (with family money, no less), or whether you see him as a defiant, larger than life character, who makes his money via cleverly tapping into his audience's psyche, it's hard to deny the truth behind one of his recent – and infuriating – Instagram proclamations.
Taking to Instagram recently, Dan, as part of a series of questions sent in by followers, answered the question: “why are women so crazy about you” with a surprisingly honest revelation.
Rather than claim it's all in his personality, Dan said it all comes down to having a rad "life set up."
In other words: you can be as dull as dirt, but if you have an impressive life; you will attract people to you.

Though (unless you're seeking 32 million Instagram followers above all else), we'd council you away from boasting like Bilzerian does in the above Instagram story), the point remains: the bulk of us like Shiny Things.
To what degree we can overcome this (or should be expected to overcome this) is a question for psychologists and history books (and one that has infuriated authors throughout the ages).
The idea has been debated all throughout history, with the 'status vs. personality' matrix having been explored by everyone from Shakespeare (see: his entire collected works) to Fitzgerald (see: The Great Gatsby).
The conclusion? You want to work achieve enough material success that a potential partner would aspire to be seen with you, but without losing your values and personality along the way.
